Big Ten Media Day has arrived, and with it, the Iowa Sports Information department forced Kirk Ferentz to produce a depth chart for the media guide.
This is the depth chart that will remain in the history books, aka, the printed media guide. That doesn’t mean this depth chart is the gospel, or that it won’t change 50 times before the first game. However, this is a ‘decent’ touchstone because of the fact it goes into print in an actual book. First, here is the offense.
Not a lot of surprises here, but the most noteworthy name on this depth chart for me, relative to an eyebrow raise, is Keegan Johnson listed as a backup receiver. Not many true freshmen make these things. The backup OL’s are RS freshman, RS freshman, junior, sophomore and true freshman.
Here is the defense:
Even fewer surprises here, but it is good to see Yahya Black listed on the one line at defensive tackle, as his name has come up repeatedly on and off the record as a potential difference maker for this year’s team on the defensive interior. If he can breakthrough, then this defense can probably be as good as we think it can be, as the back seven is strong as Ajax.
